Cruel Tradition

12″ x 24″ acrylic on canvas. This was from another movie scene where it was basically tradition to take this child who was to be emperor away from his mother at a super young age. It really broke my heart watching him cry as his sort of nanny tried to comfort him. It was based on Emperor Puyi who was a real person. I can’t imagine having such an incredibly strange and difficult life/job at such a young age. Sold.
